Infectious Praise! January 6, 2009 My 17 year old daughter LOVES Tye so I thought I'd get her this DVD for Christmas. SO GLAD I DID! I'm 43 years old and found myself enjoying it as much as her. Have even encouraged her and some of the other teens from our church to learn the mime dance from the dvd so they can do it at our church. Would encourage others to purchase without hesitation!
Great DVD -Challenging/confusing sermon from Tye-Music is great though.Buy It! December 26, 2008 If you enjoy good Gospel and Christian music, and most definitely if you're a fan of Tye and GA, you're going to love this DVD! The footage of the concert is excellent, they included a couple songs that didn't make the album, but were still great, and there's alot of bonus features. Tye preaches a full-on sermon calling our generation to Stand up to temptations, but also to Stand OUT against evil, sin, and stop allowing people in the church community to compromise their Christian witness without being challenged by the brothers and sisters in Christ. They understandably overdubbed most of the vocals, but it's still GA's vocal parts, so at least it's not a Milli Vinilli situation. Interviews with Soundcheck (the band) are really good. I'm a musician from church but sometimes I play secular gigs when I get called, just to earn money and because I love to play. But these guys have played high-profile secular gigs, and they've given it up to play for God as part of their Stand. It's a little confusing because the drummer Spanky still plays alot of secular gigs, so it's kind of a contradiction that Tye uses him on the drums while preaching and singing about stepping away from that scene. That bothered me quite a bit. I feel like it's a contradiction for Tye to preach and sing so adamantly about stepping out of the secular scene, but his drummer (the backbone of the entire group and the glue for the music to stick together) is one of the busiest musicians in hip-hop, R&B, and pop music. Plus he co-wrote the track Stand-Out which criticizes praise leaders for listening to R&B and having hip-hop on their ringtone. It's confusing and hard to reconcile Tye's sermon with the fact that Spanky is on the drumkit. It sends a mixed message, which diminishes the whole thing. I know Spanky's the hottest cat around and has been with GA a long time, and I admire his playing tremendously, but if Tye wants to lead people to Stand Out and challenge others, I think he needs to lead by example in the most critical moments, like on the album EVERYBODY is going to listen to, and the DVD EVERYBODY is going to buy and watch. Pudge would be better suited to perform live AND record until Spanky is ready to commit fully to Gospel. But that's their personal thing. That seriously confusing flub aside, the DVD itself is great and I think anyone who enjoys live music and Gospel concert videos will truly enjoy Stand Out. Peace.
Standing Out December 16, 2008 This video is very-well put together, though the overall cinematography is not at the same level as "Victory! Live!" The bonus features more than make up for it as the message is on point, the commentary is hilarious, and the extras will keep you watching for quite a while. Every Christian/Gospel music fan needs this in their collection without a shadow of a doubt.
More Than You Ask For!!! November 10, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I anxiously awaited this dvd and was not disappointed. The energy and excitement of this video is phenominal...Minister Tye covers several music genres with his songs......and he does take it to church also. His guests include Kierre Sheard(Kiki),Kim Burrell, Judith Christie McAllister and Jon Owens. What is different is the audience's response;at times they are still and observant. Perhaps it can be attributed to the songs being unfamiliar to them or not wanting to miss what's going on onstage. Some of the music has a rock/metal flava to it and I think it took some by suprise.....eventually they get with it. Soooo much info is given in this dvd. You get an interview with Shante (wifey),Sound Check (band). In addition, you get to hear commentary by Tye,Thaddaeus and others;they are so crazy!!! Questions are also answered on the dvd concerning G.A.,SoundCheck,music content, song inspiration....just everything you might want to know about Tye & G.A. You really get a glimpse into his personality. I commend him for giving so much of himself and his family (and all for $14.98:) You gotta add this dvd to your collection along with the previous "Victory" dvd if you don't already have it. You shouldn't soon tire of hearing Tye Tribbett and seeing him 'cause he's so versatile and always keeps it fresh. He mentioned in the dvd that he can't give us everything at once because it would probably scare us; so stay tuned for more. I also note that musicians will definetely appreciate hearing the testimonies of how his band members eventually forsook playing secular engagements and how music inspiration from the HOLY SPIRIT far exceeds other musical influences one may think is relative.
This DVD Is Powerful!!!!!! November 7, 2008 The focus of this dvd is Jesus Christ. God uses Tye Tribbett and G.A. to accomplish real ministry through word and music. It's not about the entertainment, it's about Jesus!!! It will make you strive to have a real relationship with God. Holiness is the only way to do it. So Go and buy this dvd because it will be a blessing to you.
