Great everyday bible November 24, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
The day I purchased the Life Application Study Bible, I had gone to my local Christian bookstore looking for a study bible. I had some questions I needed answers to. I had heard that the Old Scofield was the study bible to have and so I picked that one up first. I flipped to some passages I had questions about and read the notes. The Scofield notes were not really helpful. They were dry and didn't dig deep enough to answer the questions I had. I mean, the Old Scofield is still a must have, but I'm just saying it's not what I was looking for. Then I saw the Life Application Study Bible. It seemed to glow a little. (I'm joking but this truely is a special book). I flipped through it looking at the passages I felt like I understood, and read the corresponding notes. The notes matched my understanding. That was a sort of a control test. Then I looked at the passages I had questions about. The notes had concise answers for the questions I was looking for. I took the book to the counter and asked the lady there about the Life Application Study Bible and how it compares to the Old Scofield and other study bibles. She said it is the most popular study bible on the market right now. She said I would truely enjoy reading this bible over the others. I bought it. After reading most of the New Testament and the notes, I have to agree this is an excellent study bible. The notes, generally speaking, take up the bottom half of each page. They include a lot of historical information, putting the text in context with its time. They include theological speculation for difficult passages or concepts. They put concepts into modern terms that we can relate to. They encourage you to apply concepts to your own life. There are thumbnail maps with arrows showing where the story is moving to which is very helpful of you aren't very familiar with the ancient geography of the Holy Land. There are summaries at the beginning of each book. There is a wealth of short articles about key characters in the bible. There are timelines placing events into the context of world history. A pretty good concordance is included in the back. It's about as good as you'll get in a study bible although you'll still need a Strong's Concordance if you're a serious student.
I have naturally settled into a daily reading schedule which includes reading both the text of the bible and all of the corresponding notes. The notes are so good, I have decided to read them all because they usually offer some insight that I hadn't thought of, even if I thought I understood a particular passage. I would suggest getting the KJV. Even if you have a harder time understanding the KJV, the notes will remedy that.
Great commentary November 10, 2008 I've read through many different study bibles in my work as a youth minister. I haven't found any to be easier to understand or have more useful information than the Life Application Study Bibles. The NLT version works well as it is generally seen as truer the the biblical text. In general the commentary does a great job giving very useful information right on the page regarding the historical activities going on during the time of the verse being referenced.
The Best Bible Out There! October 25, 2008 The Life Application Study Bible's footnotes and marginal notes make this Bible a must-have for all Christians. These notes explain confusing verses and make the reader understand how these verses relate to daily life. Highly recommended.
kjv la October 20, 2008 I really wanted the Bible that you advertised (leather bound NOT bonded leather) but after 2 failed attempts on your part you gave up and cancelled my order! VERY DISAPPOINTED on your part.
LIFE APPLCATION STUDY BIBLE KJV October 15, 2008 IT IS WRITTEN SO YOU READ ALL THE WAY ACROSS INSTEAD OF ALL THE UP AND DOWN
