Editorial Reviews:

Product Description
"Sometimes I feel like when I make decisions that are remotely biblical, people who call themselves Christians are the first to criticize and say I'm crazy, that I'm taking the Bible too literally, or that I'm not thinking about my family's well-being. . . When people gladly sacrifice their time or comfort or home, it is obvious that they trust in the promises of God. Why is it that the story of someone who has actually done what Jesus commands resonates deeply with us, but we then assume we could never do anything so radical or intense? Or why do we call it radical when, to Jesus, it is simply the way it is? The way it should be?"

3 out of 5 stars Not quite as Crazy as I thought   January 5, 2009
Well I was expecting this book to be all about God's love for us, But I found the book to be more about my love for God. The book points out that God loves us, but also we should be loving him more and more everyday. Chan also writes on how the more we love God, the more we should be willing to do for him. Which is very true the more I love my Wife the more I am willing to do for her. This was quite the challenge because I say I love God but really how much fruit am I bearing out of that love. It was worth the read and challenged me to be more fruitfull if you are looking for a book on God's love I do not think you should choose this one.

I spent twelve years in a church that followed Mr. Chan's philosphy. Works = worth before God, don't have a savings account or a retirement plan (so you can give all your money to the church) and never question God (and by extension, church leadership). I am still trying to recover.

Run, don't walk, away from this book and from anyone who tries to tell you to earn your salvation.

5 out of 5 stars Crazy Love - Amazing Book!!   December 17, 2008
Francis Chan renews the passion. Video support on his website is awesome and inspiring. An easy read, yet challenging in our consumer driven society. We need to stop looking at ourselves so closely and look around us. We need each other! We all have so much...give a little...give more!

I am well aware that this is the first review that will not earn 5 stars. This is not because I hate the author nor do I feel that I am better in any way. But this book thoroughly disappointed me. I had originally thought this book would speak much on God's love and deal with His person. I was wrong. The focus of this book was on works.

This book talked about "lukewarm Christians" and then declares that they are not Christians. I found no problem with this statement, however, Francis then proceeded to talk about works. He did not teach Christ and Him crucified. I am afraid that anyone who was not a truly regenerate Christian when they read this book will understand in error that salvation is by works. I do not believe that Francis Chan purposely taught this but it seems implied all through the book.

I would not recommend this book because it does not deal with God's grace. If you want a book a book that will transform your life I would recommend Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God's Unfailing Love by Jerry Bridges. I would also recommend Knowing God by J.I. Packer. This book is an excellent read for those who want to know God. This book also perfectly declares what Francis Chan was trying to say. He does this by discussing Jesus becoming poor for our sake and dealing with God's being.

5 out of 5 stars Every Christian MUST read this book!!!   December 6, 2008
If this book doesn't rattle your comfortable cage...you need to check your pulse. This is the first book I have ever read (besides the Bible) of which I agree with every single sentence.

Immediately after I finished about 30 minutes ago, I got down on my knees and prayed something to the effect of "O God...have mercy on me, a sinner! I don't want You more than I want other people and things. I am sorry. Please work in my heart so that my affections for you far surpass my affections for anything or anyone. I know I don't want You anywhere near as much as I ought...but I want to."

What on earth have I been thinking?!
