Product Description Doctrinally suspect in his lifetime, Meister Eckhart has become a shaper of modern religious consciousness.

Nice Overview July 21, 2008 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This is a nice overview of Ekhart's sermons and preaching precepts. The book is a great night stand reader or guide for a meditation session. Most of the entries are well written but there are a few that miss the mark of Ekhart's message and deviate from Ekhart's apaphatic spirtual style.
Lovely Sampling of Meister Eckhart's Work April 16, 2008 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
**** This is a little book---only about 80 pages---and 5" by 4" and 1/5 inches thick. It fits in your purse or back pocket and is easy to carry anywhere and read bit by bit anytime, or all at once! As such a small volume, it is a manageable introduction to a deep spiritual teacher, containing a brief introduction, four sermons, and 22 "counsels" which are brief essays exploring a particular point. It is Meister Eckhart's actual writings without interpretation.
I was unfamiliar with Meister Eckhart's work (spiritual writings rooted in paradox and mystery instead of logic and reason) and wasn't sure if I'd like or understand it, so this book was the perfect place to start. The pieces that were selected for the book are abridged from a collection of the author's work found in "Meister Eckhart , Vol. 2: The Essential Sermons, Commentaries, Treatises and Defense (Classics of Western Spirituality)".
As it ended up, I didn't enjoy for his writings at all (they just didn't resonate with my own particular spiritual beliefs), but was overall very pleased with the book because it helped me to decide and to become introduced to his work without spending a fortune or investing a lot of time.
What a convenient format used for introductions to broad subjects. I wish more teachers/writers would have their work sampled like this.
Recommended. ****
