5 out of 5 stars Joyce does NOT misquote scripture   January 7, 2009
Reviewer Steve Bauer seems never to have encountered a New King James version of the bible, which he should have seen to before criticizing Joyce as misquoting scripture. She quotes Proverbs 23:7 perfectly. I opened up my bible and looked it up to make sure. And Steve, Joyce knows bad things happen - she is not teaching that if you just think positive, nothing bad will happen to you. She is teaching a broad concept and habits that will help people live a more healthy, productive life in general. She is not niave. Study the teacher before you criticize her. You obviously don't know her work or what she believes in. May God lift the veil from your eyes and bless you, Steve.

5 out of 5 stars Digest slowly...it's very good.   December 27, 2008
I took this book slowly but was tempted to eat it all up because it's so good. It was good to savor slowly in and resulted in greater life impact for me. I read it along with the study guide, so I could examine my thoughts. I have learned I don't have to be a slave to my thoughts, or to walk in fear. I first read it a year ago, and I keep my copy, because I know that this writer, Joyce Meyers has had a past similar to mine and has had similarly destructive thought patterns, so it helps to hear her logic to realign me with the word of God. There is a Battlefield of the Mind daily calendar too with thoughts and scripture, and it has been a great tool in hard times.

5 out of 5 stars Life-Changing Book! Even for a big o'l liberal like me. :)   December 11, 2008
In the last few months, I have been so blessed by Joyce Meyer's books. I'd heard of her before, of course, and was honestly a little turned off the few times I saw her on television. Our life views are so far apart--my theology tends towards the liberal, I'm far from a biblical inerrantist, I'm unapologetically lesbian, etc.--I didn't think there was anything she could say to me. Especially because in a good deal her talks that I'd heard, she mentioned the devil and demons a lot, and I'm not even sure if I believe that there's a literal Devil. I wrote her off, not thinking that she was bad in any way, but that she was for "other people."

I'll say it: I was wrong.

"Battlefield of the Mind" is, the first self-help book I've picked up (other that "The Courage to Heal") that hit me right where I was, gave me incredibly practical suggestions for changing behavior that needed to be changed, and actually *worked*. Through the book, the Holy Spirit used Joyce's words to convict me of behavior that was problematic and hindering my walk. AND, with the help of the Holy Spirit and the book, I have made some really positive changes, that have impacted both my spiritual life and my mundane life. This is going to sound so cliche, but whatever, it's true: I feel like a huge weight is lifted off my shoulders, that I can see clearly for the first time in years.

I've had experiences in my life that had shaped me into a very negative person, and stolen the bright joy I had as a child. I had dimmed God's light in me, and I didn't even realize it, because I was constantly complaining, anxious, critical. And, while I knew I was unhappy, I really didn't think there was anything I could do about it. I thought that's just how I was. Now, I was a Christian, very definately so, and trying desperately for a relationship with Him, but Joyce's book, learning how to improve my thinking, has made my spiritual life *so* much more free. And the people around me have noticed changes in my life, from people as intimate as my family to as casual as regular customers at my store. I can't promise that every person will find deep meeaning from this book, but I sure did!

And it isn't just me (well, obviously, it's a huge industry). We decided to use "Battlefield of the Mind" as a book study at church (there is a woorkbook that comes with it...honestly, I find it a little superfulous, but it helps fascilitate group discussions). And this little book study has changed every single person who has attended. It started with just three of us, but our enthusiasm, and the enthusiasm of new members, made the group grow and grow, and now around ten of us meet to study it every week (and when your church has 30ish members, that's a lot!). I have watched the Holy Spirit use this book to convict and grow a lot of the baby Christians in our congregation...and the seasoned ones (like me!) as well.

In close, I want to say that one of the really awesome things about this book is the fact that I never felt condemned. I felt convicted, sure, and was, at the beginning, overwhelmed when I realized how off-track I'd gotten. But Joyce never makes you feel like a bad person, and she is constantly reminding us that God will complete the good work He started, and that there's no condemnation in Christ. As someone who spends a good deal of time feeling condemned by other Christians, that was so important to me.

5 out of 5 stars Battlefield of the Mind   November 26, 2008
I purchased seven books of Battlefield of the Mind by Joyce Meyers for a women's bible study. I purchased used books and all of them were in perfect shape. This book was used in a class for women overcoming addictions. It's a great book for anyone who wants to change their attitude and negative thinking. You ARE what you think! And if you don't like who you are then change your "stinkin thinkin"! Joyce tells you how.

5 out of 5 stars Life changing - empowering   September 23, 2008

Joyce Meyer is one of the most outstanding teachers out there today, in my opinion. The concepts in this book changed my life, and continue to impact me on a daily basis. They are presented in an easy to understand and read style that pulls you in from the start. What could be more important than dealing with what's going on in your mind! Everything in life stems from your thoughts and Joyce teaches you how to move up higher towards a better life. She has a God-given ability to communicate the heart of the matter, and to help you apply the information to your life. I strongly recommend this book and I feel that every believer should read it as soon as possible!
